Getting Started

 

The first step for most people new to our training facility is to email us to schedule a meeting with one of our coaches. We’d love to meet you, and want to know about your health and fitness goals. We want to share our training philosophies and how we plan on helping you reach your goals.

From here, we can get you started with our Fundamentals package of 6 personal training sessions. This consists of an introduction to basic powerlifting, calisthenics, Olympic weightlifting and other movements we use and build upon in our group training. The fundamental package is the best way to ensure your success, safety and training longevity as it develops a rock-solid technical base.

After you have been taught the movements which create the backbone of the program you’ll be ready to train in group classes full time. Our movement pool uses serious strength and conditioning exercises in order to develop a broad and inclusive fitness. Once you arrive at this point you’ll never look back!

 

 

FAQs


WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING WITH ME ON THE FIRST DAY?

Wear comfortable workout clothing that allows you to move freely, including layers in the cooler months. The best type of shoe to start training is a flat soled shoe like a Chuck Taylor or a minimalist running shoe. Also please bring a notebook to track your progress. And finally, remember to bring a water bottle!

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

The cost for the 6 Fundamental personal training sessions is $350 plus GST. Once the fundamentals have been completed you can begin training with us full time either with a monthly membership or drop-in pass. Please contact us either by email or phone if you have any questions regarding cost.

I AM EXTREMELY OUT OF SHAPE, IS THIS STILL FOR ME?

Absolutely. We can modify any workout as required to meet your current abilities. Many people in our gym started where you are and are very supportive when new people start the same process. We have a culture of respect for hard work in our gym and a strong work ethic can be demonstrated at any level of fitness.

DO I HAVE TO JOIN CLASSES RIGHT AWAY AFTER MY FUNDAMENTAL TRAINING?

If your schedule permits, it is recommended to start  group classes right away to help accelerate your learning curve. If you have to take significant time off because of other obligations you may want to do a private session when you return to group classes to refresh your skills. Individual circumstances vary and we will do our best to efficiently get you back up to speed.

WILL I STILL BE ABLE TO RIDE MY BIKE/SURF/RUN AS MUCH AS I WANT ?

In our area running, paddling, and surfing are examples of sports which are both very popular and very important to people. These sports are commonly associated with injury because of their dynamic nature, restricted range of motion and biomechanics, as well as resulting muscular imbalances and volume of time spent doing the same movement pattern. Strength and conditioning is an important base for all athletes to give them added strength, flexibility and stability; key components of injury prevention. This type of strength and conditioning work is commonly viewed as necessity for field and court sports. We are starting to see a significant shift to this type of training for outdoor sports. If you are very physically active outside of the gym you will notice an increase in energy output when you first start with us. Our Fundamentals program is slightly less intense and more spread out than regular class to give your body the opportunity to adapt to multiple activities.

DO I HAVE TO DO THE FUNDAMENTALS 1-ON- 1?

We occasionally offer our Fundamental program as semi-private (2-on-1), at the cost of $300 including GST each. We limit it at 2-on-1 to ensure there is ample time to really hone in to help each individual move better and learn the backbone of the program. This intimate setting allows us to get you moving well most efficiently and safely. Make sure you and your training partner’s schedules work well to take on this commitment together!
